Over the two and half days we were in Southern Oregon, we
sampled several of the local wines. One
of the wineries we thoroughly enjoyed was Red
Lily.
Red Lily is about a twenty-five minute drive west of Jacksonville. Even
if you are not there for wine, their property alone is worth the visit.
The winery uses estate grown Spanish varietals including
grapes such as Tempranillo, Grenache, Verdejo and Graciano. They also use a small amount of Oregon grown
Cabernet Sauvignon to blend with some of their red wines. We were not able to
try the Verdejo, which was named after their daughter, but after walking their
property it could be one of the best wines they produce based on where the
grapes are grown in their “Stargazer” vineyard. All the wines we tasted had
good balance and characteristics true to the grape varietals in each bottle.
After the tasting, we enjoyed a bottle of their Lily Girl
Rose which is a blend of 50% Granache and 50% Tempranillo. It was a perfect
wine for a hot, beautiful, sunny afternoon by the river.
